He is member of the Chinese Artists' Association, and professor of the Central Institute of Drama.
Born in 1924 in Haicheng County, Liaoning Province, he studied art independently from his childhood. From the forties, he began to engage in painting portraits and other art activities in Changchun. In 1945~1946 he followed Wang Shenglie and Guo Baichuan to study painting respectively at art class of Changchun University and Beiping Jinghua Institute of Fine Arts. In 1946~1948 he studied at the Chinese Language Department of the Literature Academy of the National Northeast University in Shengang. In 1949 he held the post of head of the arts group of the art troupe in the North China University, doing stage art work. And after that, he worked as head of the painting teaching and research section of the same school. For nearly 40 years, he has been engaged in teaching work such courses as sketch, oil painting, landscape and composition.
In 1946 his works reflecting arduous life in war, including sketch, woodcut and watercolor, were exhibited in Shengyang. Some of his works were carried in the Public Newspaper, and many of his satirical drawings and new custom paintings produced in the fifties were published in the People's Daily and other journals. In past several decades, he persisted in plunging into the thick of life and going to many different famous scenic spots for painting from nature, in which he accumulated a wealth of materials in painting and created a lot of works of oil painting in figure and landscape. Some of these works were on display in China Art Gallery or carried in newspapers and magazines or oil painting journals; and some works were in collection of China Art Gallery. In 1983 he held his solo show in Beijing, over 50 paintings including his oil painting in figure, landscape and gouache being exhibited.
In 1988~1989, at the invitation of the executive chairman of USA International Cooperation Committee, he held his landscape oil painting exhibitions twice in America, being widely acclaimed.
