Biography

Luo Er Chun

Born in 1929, a native of Hunan Province, he graduated from the West Painting Department of Suzhou Art Institute in 1951. He held the posts of editor and painter at the People’s Art Publishing House in 1951~1959. He worked as a lecturer at the Fine Arts Department of Beiing Art Institute in 1959-1964. From 1964 to present he has all along taught in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Now he is professor of the Oil Painting Department of the said academy and member of Chinese Artists’ Association. In 1982~1987 he several times held his solo shows at the exhibition hall of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Beijing Art Gallery. In 1983 Hunan Art Publishing House published his “Selected Oil Paintings of Luo Erchun”. In April 1988 he held his solo exhibition in New York, USA. During 1990~1996, he many times went to Paris and other places of Europe for painting from life, giving lectures and holding his solo painting exhibitions. 

His works of painting include “Watching”, “Small Town”, “Entrance to the Village”, “Guilin in May”, “Cockscomb”, “A Woman Nude” and “Stream”, etc.

His works took part in various exhibitions, such as the Art Works Exhibition of Modern Chinese Artists held in Japan in 1986, China Oil Painting Exhibition held in Japan in 1988, the Exhibition of Painting Kept in China Art Gallery held in the Soviet Union, Asia Exhibition of Paintings held in Bangladesh, China Oil Painting Exhibition held in Iraq, and All-China Invited Exhibition of Oil Painting sponsored by Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts. His paintings were also on display at the Sixth and Seventh National Art Works Exhibitions, Shanghai First All-China Art Exhibition and China Oil Painting Exhibition. He held his individual painting exhibitions at International Center of Arts respectively in 1982 and 1986. Many of his works have been published and collected.
